Squared away. No worries, no noise.

It was the relaxed confidence of a horn player leaning back between choruses — cool before cool was cool.

Short word. Long groove.

That word has lived with me a long time. Not because I sought it out — but because it found me, the way the best things tend to. And yet a name can become a skin you’ve grown beyond — something worn so long it starts to feel like a limit rather than a fit. Jake served well. Jacob is what was always there underneath, waiting. The given name. The one I was born into and am only now, in my 48th year, choosing to fully inhabit.

This is Onward Revillution. And this is where that chapter begins.

The Rhythm That Started It.

There is a song — Handsworth Revolution, by Steel Pulse — that carries something most music doesn’t. It is urgent without being angry. It is a cultural document dressed as a groove. It speaks in the coded language of people who have learned that the most powerful messages travel further when they travel beautifully.

Reggae has always understood this. Roots music — at its truest — is resistance with rhythm. A message encoded in a melody, passed hand to hand, heart to heart, across communities and generations. It does not shout. It resonates.

That principle sits at the heart of everything here. Onward Revillution is not a revolution in the sense of upheaval. It is a revolution in the sense of movement — continuous, principled, forward. Onward.

Against Disposability.

We are living through an age of disposability — and it is not accidental. Disposability has been designed, marketed, and sold to us as convenience, as modernity, as freedom. Wear it once. Stream it tonight, forget it tomorrow. Scroll past. Move on. Upgrade.

The fashion industry produces more clothing than the next several generations of human beings could ever wear. Music is available in quantities so vast that most of it is never heard twice. Brands are launched and abandoned like seasons. Content is generated faster than thought.

What disappears in all of this is not just stuff. What disappears is meaning.

I did not arrive at this view theoretically. I learned it from people who dressed with intention, worked with their hands, and understood — without ever needing to articulate it — that the things worth having are the things worth keeping. That quality is a form of respect. That craftsmanship carries memory. That a garment worn with pride tells a story no algorithm can generate.

La Résistance.

There is a tradition — older than reggae, older than jazz — of resistance carried in culture. Of truth embedded in art so that it travels where direct confrontation cannot. La Résistance understood this. So did the Rebel Alliance — a ragtag coalition held together not by institution but by shared values, moving through a universe that had largely surrendered to a more convenient darkness.

I grew up on those stories. I did not know then that I was absorbing a template.

Onward Revillution is built in that tradition. Not militant. Not strident. But deliberate. Every project within it — every vintage garment rescued from landfill, every record pressed into physical form, every photograph taken without the intention of immediately posting it — is an act of quiet insistence that there is another way.

You vote with your feet. You build what you believe in. You do not wait for permission.

What This Place Is.

Onward Revillution is an independent publication covering fashion, music, art, identity, and the culture of making things that last. It is built around a portfolio of projects — Pieces of Jake, SongBook Records ‘N’ Books, Boka Caje, 4thirtythree, OnceWasJacob, Authentick Group — each one a different expression of the same core conviction.

But it is not a portfolio showcase. It is a conversation. About what we choose to consume and why. About what gets lost when convenience wins. About the artists, makers, and independent thinkers who keep building anyway — not because it is easy, but because the alternative is a world that has forgotten what easy cost.

Each voice within it has its own thread — fashion and sustainability, vinyl and physical media, original music, photography, brand culture. But they share a frequency. If you can hear it, you are already part of this.

A Note On The Moment.

It would be dishonest not to acknowledge the irony of launching a publication rooted in analog values in the age of generative AI. I am aware of it. I embrace it — with clear eyes.

For the first time, I have found in AI something closer to a genuine creative partner than a distraction — a capable, loyal collaborator that reflects the quality of what it is taught, and amplifies intention rather than replacing it. R2D2 and C3PO, if you will. The rebellion always had good droids.

The tools do not define the work. The values do. And the values here are clear: independence over algorithm, originality over imitation, sustainability over convenience, culture over content.

Onward.

This publication is built in real time, by one person, with a clear point of view and no interest in telling you what the algorithm wants to hear.

If you have found your way here, you probably already know that the best things — the vintage jacket with a life already lived in it, the record you can hold in your hands, the song that carries a message in its groove — are worth looking for.

– Jacob

A manifesto for Onward Revillution Back in the smoke-and-swing era of early jazz, ‘jake’ meant everything was handled.
